MacPro: Parallels, 3D, PKR and SwiftShader

I've just upgraded to Parallels RC2. Here are the changes I've noticed:

  • It seems a lot quicker, the general interface seems snappier.
  • I can now browse my Samba network. This means I can access my server shares.
  • I can get one of the swiftshader demo's to run.

Firstly I have run windows directx update so that may be why the swiftshader demo ran. I also changed my desktop to 32bit (from 24).

The sad thing is that I still can't get PKR to work. It crashes on startup. I think this is due to the way it creates a D3D device. To be fair the device driver for the video card (which is an emulated parallels device since it is rendering into a window) says it has no D3D acceleration.

Being able to browse my Samba network (windows network) is great. Basically it means I can run parallels as a complete PC now and I no longer need to reboot into Windows (using bootcamp) to do simple things.

Update: I got it working with VMWare
